Petzschner/Waske defeat Fischer/Oswald in first round – Eckental Challenger 2011
The 2011 Eckental Challenger featured a first round match of the men’s doubles division on November 2, 2011. The German pair of Philipp Petzschner and Alexander Waske played the match against the Austrian team of Martin Fischer
and Philipp Oswald.  The German team of Petzschner/Waske won the match 7-6(5), 6-4.
Fischer/Oswald were in command as the first set began. The Austrian team was dominant with their first serve winning percentage at 75% while their opponents could only manage a ratio of 40%. The Austrian team was not letting their
opponents score with their first serves, a strategy they used to contain the Germans from scoring in all of their service games.
Petzschner/Waske scored three aces, one less than their opponents. As far as the double faults were concerned, Fischer/Oswald only conceded one. The German team had five double faults, which was because they were eager to get a
win in their service games and lead into the first set.
The German pair was not at par with their service in the first set, but they were able to save five out of six breakpoints. The Austrian team could save two out of their three breakpoints, but they were still proving their dominance
in the first set. The set entered into a tiebreaker, signifying that both teams were not giving their opponents a lead of two games in the set.
In the second set, the German team scored six aces while their Austrian opponents delivered three. The Germans were moving on a faster pace in the second set to win the match. In terms of first serve winning ratio, both teams were
almost equal. They were using their service games to take control over their opponents and lead the second set for the win.
Petzschner/Waske were unable to save the only breakpoint they faced in the match but that did not lessened the pace with which they were moving ahead in the second set. They were aggressive as they let the Austrians save only one
breakpoint out of the three they faced.
Both teams played five service games in the second set. The Austrian team had higher statistical figures in the second set in terms of first serves won with 87% as compared to the German’s 81% points won on first serve.
Even though Petzschner/Waske were on the lower end in terms of points won on first serve, they had a higher first serve winning ratio which kept them standing ahead of their opponents throughout the match.
The German pair was successful in not letting their opponents win the fifth game in the second set, giving them a two game lead to win the second set and enter the quarterfinals of the 2011 Eckental Challenger.
