Tank capacity is 70L, but I want to know the low level alarm setting, so I know how far I have got before I have to get off the motorway and those extortionate prices.

  1. If you carry a spare can of diesel you can find out. You will have to prime the fuel pump first to get it to run again. I really don't understand your logic. When you get the low fuel warning there is usually ample time to get off any motorway and fill up. Why don't you fill up at half full level? You need never worry again.

  2. Fill up before you go, i always fill up when my tank gets to quarter empty then the filters don't get clogged with S**t.

  3. My experience is that it varies from car to car (even of the same model for older cars).

I have just run my 405 diesel down low to find out where it runs out on the gauge. It started to surge a little rather than just stopping so at that point I stopped and filled up from the tank I had in the back (didn't record the km though sorry).

If you are going to try this, check to see that you have a primer pump at the engine an add fuel as soon as you feel the engine miss a little.

As a rough guide, around 50km is a fairly typical amount I think.

  4. Are you typing this now on the motorway?  It is a diesel, so don't run it out of fuel, but there is nothing to stop you pausing on the hard-shoulder to put a spare gallon in.  70 litres is something like 15 gallons... just how far are you driving?  You should have over 500 miles in that tank, easily!

  5. When the fuel warning light comes on there is approx. 9 litres of fuel left.
