Peugot problem?

peugot 406 auto sports and ice mode lights flicker thus downgrading the gear box..the situation is resolved byswitching the ignition on and off thus clearing the fault what is wrong...m.thomas

You look to have an auto transmission problem. Take the car to the Peugeot dealer and have it diagnosed with their computer. Sometimes you have to replace the transmission solenoid valves, (Borg-Warner) very common fault in the AL4 type transmissions that the 406 model use , or maybe, is the transmission selector (that's easy to replace and cheaper that the valves).

Anyway be prepare to pay a high price on the labor costs.

My advise is don't keep driving the car with that fault. It could damage the transm. even more.

either faulty solonoid in the gear changer assembly,or ecu controller fault.would go for the latter one as it is resolved when resetting the ignition
