Peya/Soares conquer Fleming/Hutchins and Proton Malaysian Open – Tennis News
Austrian-Brazilian duo, Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares, bounced back to triumph over the British tandem, Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins, in a three-set mouth-watering battle at the Proton Malaysian Open 2012 on Sunday. They summed up a 5-7, 7-5, 10-7 victory
against the Brits to capture their maiden title at this indoor hard court event.
Seeded third in this event, Peya and Soares shocked their rivals in one hour and 43 minutes after displaying exceptional co-ordination skills. After earning the glory in their first battle against each other, the Austrian-Brazilian pair not only captured
their first career title but also improved to a 10-3 mark this circuit.
"It feels very nice," said the beaming Brazilian in a post match press conference. "Every title is very good, really special; a different story and different atmosphere. It is only our fourth tournament, so it feels really good. This week was special, because
we felt we were playing better with each match."
Peya added, "We are starting to click more as a team, also on our off days as we work on our games. It paid off this week. We enjoyed the tournament a lot, it was a lot of fun."
The 13th ranked tandem, which bagged two titles this season, made quick in-roads at the Putra Indoor Stadium. They drew the first blood in the second game and took a 2-0 lead. The Brits lost their edge in the very next game but after capitalising
on another break chance, they jumped to a 3-1 lead. Despite squandering their lead again, Fleming and Hutchins stayed focused and carved out the decider with a 7-5 success after with another break of serve in the last game.
Peya and Soares got in action in the proceeding set. They smoothly swiped their entire serves after brushing off the lone breakpoint they came across. The Austrian-Brazilian junction cashed in the only break opportunity in the 11th game and clicked
the equaliser with a 7-5 success.
Ranked 29th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Doubles Rankings, Peya and Soares maintained consistency in the game in the super tie-breaker. They cruised to a 7-5 lead before clinching the decider with a 10-7 score line.
With this victory, Peya and Soares gained 250 ATP Doubles Rankings points and split $46,620 in prize money.
