Peyo Boichinov brushes aside Grigoriy Martynenko in first round of the 2011 Russian Open Grand Prix
Bulgaria’s Peyo Boichinov brushed aside Russia’s Grigoriy Martynenko in the Men’s Singles first round at the 2011 Russian Open Grand Prix, in Russia, on Wednesday, June 29, 2011. The Bulgarian shuttler took 41 minutes to get rid of the local shuttler in
a thrilling rubber-set contest.
Peyo played perfect badminton in the opening set of the match, where he employed all of his technical skills in the game. His stroke selection was quite superb and his hand-eye coordination was also perfect. The local player found it very hard to place the
bird in the gaps, as his speed was quite slow.
Boichinov targeted the weaker areas in his opponent’s court and manipulated them to earn one point after the other. Grigoriy failed to stop the aggressive run of the Bulgarian, who was dominating the rallies with considerable ease. Peyo was four points ahead
of the local shuttler at 11-7, at the end of the first-half in the set.
After getting back from a one-minute rest, the Russian tried to catch up the difference, but failed to perform well against a spirited Peyo, who was hitting the side lines with great accuracy. He ended the second set in striking fashion by winning it with
a 21-14 difference, in just 12 minutes.
The second set of this entertaining match was breathtaking, as both shuttlers with the highest level of concentration and speed. The score also remained level throughout the set until 22-22. At this crucial stage of the game, the Bulgarian made an unforced
error and lost the game with a tight difference of 22-24, in 17 minutes.
The third game was not that tough, as Peyo found her momentum again and started to dictate the pace of the game. He played with great precision and spared no chance for the local shuttler to put up any sort of strong resistance. Peyo won the set by a 21-14
margin, in only 12 minutes. The rubber-set match ended with a 21-14, 22-24 and 21-14 score on the board.
