Peyton Manning denies in talks with potential suitors, says no clue where he heads next-NFL News
The redundant quarterback, Peyton Manning, said on Wednesday, March 07, 2012, that he is not in talks with any of his potential suitors, who have consistently been reported to nurture hopes of the player’s signing following his release by Indianapolis Colts.
Peyton was responding to journalists’ questions at a crowded news conference where he was accompanied by Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay.
He acknowledged hearing the news linking several teams to his prospective signing after the release, but denied coming into contact with any of them.
Manning said:
"I literally have not had one conversation with anyone about these teams. It's been so hard for me trying to figure out some closure with my situation with the Colts. I haven't thought about teams, and I don't know who is interested. I really don't."
Some sections of media have quoted anonymous sources claiming that the player is interested in having comprehensive dialogue with the potential teams and only then he can make his mind for the future course.
While answering the similar question later in South Florida, he said:
"I have no idea who wants me, what team wants me, how this process works. I don't know if it's like college recruiting where you go take visits. I mean, this is all so new to me."
Since the unlikelihood of Peyton Manning’s return to Colts made the headlines first in the offseason, reports referring a number of teams as his potential suitors are emerging since then.
The reports have remained in circulation every now and then even though the managers were wary of the National Football League (NFL) rules on commenting on any player’s status while he still belongs to another team.
The matter of free agency is a different one altogether and now as Peyton Manning is set to hit the market, the prospective buyers are expected to talk louder and clearer on the options of taking the player on board.
So far, quite a few have surfaced. They include the Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans, where the player played his college league, New York Jets, the city where his younger brother, Eli Manning, is a QB for Giants, Seattle Seahawks, and possibly Washington
Redskins in spite of the disapproval of the city’s mayor.
All of them expressed their desires to hire Manning while he was still a Colt, and it is expected that many new contenders might jump on the bandwagon as they are now free to talk.
Meanwhile, Manning has no clue where he would be heading to, following the end of his 14-year legacy at Indianapolis since his arrival in the city as a top draft pick in 1998. He never looked back for next 14 years until yesterday (Wednesday) when he was
let go.
