Peyton Manning not interested in joining Washington Redskins – NFL News
Indianapolis Colts were facing ‘financial crisis’ that prompted them to release the 14-year veteran quarterback, Peyton Manning, but the player, despite not being hundred per cent fit, has so much potential suitors awaiting that he has now started narrowing
down his options.
According to the latest development, Peyton is certainly not going to join Washington Redskins.
Peyton is recovering from a neck injury that forced him out of the last National Football League (NFL) season. He was let go by Colts on Wednesday.
He is now a free agent, which means that he is able to join any team of the league. It is expected that Manning will reach a decision sometime during next week, but different sources have confirmed that Redskins are not on his list.
According to Chris Russell of ESPN 980, there are plenty of reasons for Peyton not to choose Redskins.
The most anticipated destination for Peyton is Miami. Besides, there are strong indications that he will be interested in joining a team from the American Football Conference (AFC).
Russell said:
“There’s lots of reasons for that. His brother Eli, the colder weather, the whole situation down in Miami and so on and so forth. But unless that changes—and I’m taking my sources at their word—I don’t think Manning’s coming here to D.C."
Earlier, Redskins’ offensive coordinator, Kyle Shanahan, expressed a desire to sign Manning if the player proved his fitness.
Shanahan said of Peyton:
“The way he plays. I know he’s up there in age, but if he’s healthy, age is not an issue. That guy takes care of his body...his arm’s not leaving. He can take the hits. You just hope his neck’s alright, and then he’ll be Peyton Manning.”
Redskins’ last season was very pathetic as they could only win five games and lost 11 in the regular season and ended up at the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) East division.
Their offensive unit lacked strength and Manning could have been a perfect fit for them. That being said, Manning is also a perfect fit for many other teams.
Now with the confirmation that Manning is not going to entertain Redskins, the other teams are hoping for the quarterback’s positive nod.
