Peyton Manning says recovery on target but will not prove anything to anyone-NFL News
The quarterback, Peyton Manning, said on Wednesday, March 07, 2012, that he has nothing to prove to anyone about his health and fitness despite his clear intentions of returning to the game.
He was talking to media following confirmation of his release by Indianapolis Colts. He was accompanied by Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay.
The player confirmed that he has been consistently progressing in the recovery and rehabilitation from neck surgery he underwent in September 2011 and said that he was determined to play again after missing the entire 2011-12 National Football League (NFL)
season due to the injury.
Manning said:
"I don't feel like I have anything to prove. I don't feel like I have anything to prove," adding that he was feeling “closer and closer” to previous strength.
He further said:
"I'm throwing it pretty well. I still have some work to do. I have some progress to make. But I've come a long way. I've really worked hard. I can't tell you the hours and the time I've put in to working hard and I really enjoy being back out there."
Manning’s comments on his recovery coincide with his denial of being in contacts with any of the potential suitors who are vying to sign him off the free agency when it starts on March 14, 2012.
The recovery status of the player has been making headlines since he had surgery last year, but contradictory news regarding his comeback also engulfed the atmosphere.
A number of experts, physical trainers and doctors have been giving their opinions on the chances of his recovery after the fourth neck surgery.
The most relevant and recent was the one from an anonymous orthopaedic surgeon, who is apparently privy to the player’s workout regimen since the last surgery and has spoken in favour of the player’s ability to recover to the previous level of strength and
power.
Similar confirmation has regularly been coming from family members, former Colts’ managers, especially vice chairman, Bill Polian, and coaches, who somehow had remained in contact with the player.
More importantly, Manning himself is optimistic and determined to fully recover and play football again.
An encouraging development for him could be doctors’ stance on the impossibility of reoccurrence of the injury in the near future.
The player is reported to have been throwing football at an aggressive pace lately, as shown in a leaked video.
He is rehabilitating in the Duke University facility and the players who are taking part in the drills with him are also hopeful for Manning’s return.
Earlier, ex-chairman, Bill Polian, had pointed out same situation on the player’s chances of being able to regain his old strength and velocity in the throwing arm. He has consistently been spoken on the possibility of his return to the professional league.
