Peyton Manning still fuming over late interception against the New England Patriots
Despite the fact that all his Indianapolis Colts team-mates rallied to his defence, Peyton Manning is still placing the blame for their 31-28 loss to the New England Patriots last Sunday 21 November squarely on his shoulders.
Manning was intercepted by James Sanders in the closing moments of last week's game after he had led the team up the field into field goal range, as a successful field goal could have tied the score and sent the game into overtime. Although Colts players
are calling it a losing effort on the part of the entire team, Manning just doesn't see things that way.
"It's just accurate," Manning told reporters on Wednesday, reiterating what he had said previously about his being the only person to blame for the Colts' loss. "I do do that, you know, make mistakes."
Tight end Jacob Tamme doesn't share Manning's opinion and suggested that everyone could have done something different on the play. "It's definitely one of those deals that happens and everybody on the field could have done something better. I think you look
at yourself first and that's what everybody on this team does."
Manning and the Colts get set to take on Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers this Sunday in what could be a high scoring affair, as the two teams are ranked number one and two in the NFL for passing offence.
Manning admits that the game against San Diego will be an opportunity to make amends for last Sunday's error.
"This game is more like last week's in that we understand we have to play well on offense and score some points because their offense is excellent and you do have to score some points. It will be a tough challenge. Certainly, I need to play better than last
week. But I do think in order to beat them it has to be a true team win. Everybody has to do their part."
