Peyton Manning tipped to join Denver Broncos on five-year $95 million contract-NFL News
The Denver Broncos are planning to introduce the quarterback, Peyton Manning, at a news conference, on Tuesday, March 20, once both parties agree to a deal, which is in negotiations at the moment but expected to be finalised and signed well before the media
call.
According to some reports, the player has given a mandate to his agent, Tom Condon, to work out his contract with the team management, following his confirmation to the Broncos’ vice president football operations, John Elway, that he had chosen them over
the other two leading contenders, the San Francisco 49ers and Tennessee Titans.
His decision of joining Broncos came late Monday, and given the amount of boasting and excitement that had prevailed at Titans' headquarters, it was rather a surprise for many.
Although the Denver Broncos were among the three short-listed Manning contenders, Titans were reported to be leading the prospects until Monday.
Following the confirmation of his decision to Broncos, Peyton also called the officials of 49ers and Titans, informing them of his choice.
No comments have been heard regarding the matter from the offices of the two teams so far.
Meanwhile, the player’s agent and Broncos' officials are working out details of the contract, which according to some reports, is aimed to be "fair to both sides."
Nothing has been speculated around the terms of the deal, except that its value is going to be somewhere around $95 million, similar to the one he had worked out with his former employer, the Indianapolis Colts.
It will be round about a five-year contract and terms and conditions are going to include some protection options/clauses for Broncos, in case of the player’s inability to play for them due to his neck injury.
So far, the team is satisfied with his health and fitness level.
The player has already passed their physicals. He worked out for all the three teams, during his recent visits to their headquarters.
According to some analysts, the financial aspect of the deal is also going to be very important for both parties. Peyton himself has offered to be flexible with the financial aspects of his contract.
Some media reports have disclosed that the amount of $95 million has already come under discussion between the player and Broncos’ vice president, during the player’s last visit and meeting with Broncos' officials.
As of the latest, both parties are reported to have been working on each and every detail of the contract, and as expected, it is going to be finalised and signed by them well before the planned news conference this Tuesday.
Broncos are expected to unveil the QB at the media call, which is likely to throw light on other aspects of the deal.
Moreover, it will end months of uncertainty and confusion surrounding the future of Peyton Manning, which at one stage looked very much affected due to his injury problem.
The player has missed the entire 2011 National Football League (NFL) season, at the end of which, he was released by Colts.
