Peyton Manning unimpressed by current level, wants to improve - NFL News
Peyton Manning impressed the Denver Broncos hierarchy sufficiently during his throwing sessions for them to offer him a new multi-million dollar deal but the quarterback himself was not impressed.
The veteran quarterback who is moving to another franchise for the first time in his career after spending 13 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts told media on Tuesday that he was not happy with his current level.
Talking to the The Denver Post he said.
"It wasn't great throwing. It's not supposed to be great because I'm not where I want to be. I just said: 'Here it is, guys. If you're not interested, you're not hurting my feelings. You've got to tell me.' It bothers me that I don't feel the way I want
to feel."
For Denver Broncos though the quarterback was great and they were impressed enough to offer him a deal while also shifting their star quarterback Tim Tebow over to the New York Jets.
Manning though believes that he has not met his own high standards and needs to get some strength back still to get back to his brilliant best.
"I have some strength that I have to get back,"
The quarterback joined the Broncos on Tuesday after signing a new five-year $ 96 million contract but put in clauses that protect Denver from significant losses if he once again fails to play due to his injuries.
He said about his contract.
"They've got to be protected. That's why the whole medical — I was as open a book as I could be. I told them exactly how I feel, what I was working on. They have to know everything to make their decision.”
The Broncos beat Tennessee Titans to Manning’s signature and fans are already expecting great things from their new four-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) quarterback.
The signing ends the long running saga in the media over where the veteran who will turn 36 on March 24 will end up playing.
Broncos, vice president of football operations, John Elway though believes that Manning’s health poses no risk and he is in great shape.
Hopefully Manning can remain healthy and help Denver back into the playoffs in the new season.
