  1. I'm sorry, but "reputable" and "Ph.D. in Parapsychology" is an oxymoron. Why waste 6-8 years of your life on a curriculum that won't even result in a decent job when you graduate?

If you're interested in parapsychology, major in psychology. Then pursue parapsychology as a hobby. You may even find a college that will let you study some aspect of it as part of your degree.

  2. Here is a list of places doing serious research. Presumably you need to persuade a reputable university that you are capable of carrying out some valid research in this field.

Nice work if you can get it.

  3. Hi

    Who yer goner call....Big Busters.

    Ray. West York's. U.K.

  4. I'm just wondering.Do you already have a BS?If so don't they have a post graduate program?If not why?

  5. You may want to check with the Parapsychological Association (link below).

However, very few members have degrees in parapsychology most have and suggest a degree in one of the traditional sciences (physics, biology, chemistry, psychology). J.B. Rhine who helped establish parapsychology as a science was a botanist by training.

It depends greatly on what approach you wish to take to studying phenomena as to what degree you seek.

The Rhine Research Center offers a summer training program in parapsychology.

  6. No school just hands out PhDs.  Your work has to be sponsored and reviewed by a panel.  You are not likely to find a group of professors willing to bestow a PhD in a subject that is based on speculation, conjecture and fantasy.  You aren't going to find a reputable school willing to stake its reputation on awarding such a coveted credential in such a non-scientific area.  PhDs are rewarded based on research and data.  What sort of data could you collect?

Oh, and there aren't any parapsychologists who have a PhD.

*Rhine Research Center, the successor of J. B. Rhine's parapsychology lab at Duke University, offers an excellent 8-week summer training program that provides a solid introduction to parapsychology. You can call them at 919-688-8241. This residential program is unique for providing an accredited program in traditional psychology with emphasis in parapsychology. Prof. Robert L. Morris is the Koestler Professor of Parapsychology.

*University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, England (UK). The Parrott-Warrick Research Unit within the Department of Psychology, explores topics in parapsychology. There are currently a few graduate students pursuing a PhD under the supervision of Dr. Richard Wiseman.

the best-known, actively endowed chair specifically on parapsychology is the Koestler Chair of Parapsychology, within the Department of Psychology, University of Edinburgh, Scotland. This permanent teaching and research Chair, currently held by Professor Robert Morris, has supported over a dozen graduate students into earning their doctorates with emphasis on parapsychological topics. Most of these graduates now hold teaching and research posts at accredited universities in Great Britain.

    .

Many people would like to study human consciousness, parapsychology, transpersonal psychology, or some combination of these fields. While these topics are of great interest, the number of courses and degrees available in these topics are - surprisingly - very few. People often believe that there are undergraduate or graduate-level ***programs at universities known for having parapsychology labs, especially Duke University. And while it is not widely known, both Harvard and Stanford Universities have fellowships endowed explicitly for psychical research (but they don't advertise it!)

  9. Duke no longer has their parapsychology lab. It's now the Rhine Research Center, off-campus and unaffiliatated.

You can study parapsychology as you get your doctorate in some other degree at almost any university. It's just that you have to apply general principles of science to the study, instead of engaging in faith-based golly-gee-ism based on notorious frauds like Uri Geller.

I studied radiesthesia - that's well witching - as an independent study in the Physics department of Defiance College. It was a proper physics project. Witches don't just find places to drill for water; they also find buried water and sewer pipes. My investigation took a look at whether accuracy was affected by depth of the pipes according to the inverse square law, whether it made any difference if the pipe were full or empty, or if there was a fast or slow movement of fluid through the pipe. That's what made it a physics experiment, rather than a parapsychology experiment.

I think a Ph.D. in physics, oriented in parapsychology, would be the start of a really interesting (and perhaps highly lucrative) career.

  10. The University of Virginia offers a Parapsych program.  That't the only school that I know of that has that.  I had looked into it at one point.  You actually have to go for your degree in psychology and then an extra year or two for the parapsychology part.
