How much do these cost per stem (retail and wholesale if you know)

Where is the best place to buy these flowers? I see a lot of growers in Indonesia....is that the environment to get large bright Phalaenopsis from?

Also, is a bunch always 10 stems in the floral world?

  1. Orchids are Super Expensive!

  2. There are many orchid farmers in the US, especially South Florida.  If you are in the US they might have much cheaper shipping rates.  Contact a local florist.  Even if you aren't having them do arrangements, bouquets or bouts, they can still sell you flowers & you might be able to cut out shipping costs all together!

  3. The price per stem will be determined by your wholesaler.  It varies greatly by location , so ask around.  My wholesaler is close to a major highway, so they are cheaper , but out say in the boonies , its more expensive.  Also , the # in a bunch varies.  Some things come in dozens , 24 , 10 , 8 , etc.  You really must talk to your wholesaler on this one.  Location is your biggest factor.    Most of the orchids I get are not from Indonesia , but other flowers that I have ordered that were grown there have been beautiful.    If you are doing the flowers yourself , try to avoid buying them from a florist, love my profession , but some florist charge just a little too much (especially around my area) if you order bunches of flowers instead of arranged flowers, because you are taking a bit of their business by not paying their labor cost.  Most wholsalers are happy to sell to the public as long as you place a large enough order to meet their miniums

  4. I'm using cymbidium orchids. My bouquet will have a dozen of those and it will be $150. Good luck

  5. Phalenopsis orchids are sold per stem.  But you may have to get a Box or case and the number of stems packed in a box/case vary according to the grower.

Bunch sizes vary according to type of flower and the grower.  Bunches can be by weight or by stem count and that count can be 5, 10, 12, 20 or 25 stems - these are the most common.

Of course as a florsit I will have to say the best place to buy any flower is with your florist.  I did a quick check on-line and could not find a quality wholesale to the public source for stems of fresh phalenopsis orchids.

Off-hand (with out checking with my grower) I would say retail on the orchids would be $40 to 60 per stem depending on stem and bloom size.  But I haven't gotten a stem for quite a while so this is just an estimate, I could be over or under on it.

Hawaii also propogates these orchids for sale.

Again I would suggest you look at orther varieties that are more hardy, more readily available  and less expensive.  Try Vandas, Dendrobiums, or cymbidiums.  I know they aren't quite as elegant, but still a good substitution option.
