Phantom? Cell Phone Voice Messages?

I've had a Virgin Mobile phone for over two years, it has not been in service for a year now. I use the phone as an alarm clock, time keeper, flashlight,etc. However for the past two months I have been getting voice messages. As the phone is not in service when I go to call them it has an error message of it not being in service and hangs up. I've had as many as three messages in one day. I have clues to what the problem could be but it doesn't add up. Sure I can use other sources or another phone for what I use this one for, but I am still curious why it does this.

Are you sure you haven't got battery fault or the printed circuits are at fault .record it and take it to a phone shop and then they might help you.
