Pharmaceutical question: A.D.D. medicine: my dr. gave me wrong dose of concerta, should I take it anyway? ?

I usually take 18mg of concerta, but my dr. accidentally wrote me a prescription for 36 mg. I was actually planning on asking her to raise my dosage anyway, since it hasn't been helping me focus as much as when I first started taking it. Is it safe to try this?

  1. you should ask your doctor or pharmacist.

you should NOT trust anything you hear here.

  2. Ergh.  That's a tough one as technically you can as the doctor gave you a prescription for the stronger amount.

Doctors are incredible humans (but humans).  I would ring the clinic you go to, tell them the situation - that the weaker dose wasn't proving effective - and ask for them to pass it onto your doctor, and get a response back (they will probably have to call you back).  Your doctor will then make a final decision and, if nothing else, be grateful that you alerted him/her to the situation.  We all make mistakes but, as professionals, appreciate it being brought to our attention.

That's what I'd do if I were you (before taking the stronger dose).  You shouldn't have to make an appointment as it's not your problem.

    All the best! :-)
