  1. Flagyl (metronidazole) and Azithromycin can safely be taken at the same time as long as you do not have certain heart conditions, cns disorders, or blood dyscrasia, and you have normal liver & kidney function. However, both of these medicines can upset your stomach. It's very common for a doctor to give you two different types of antibiotics if you have more than one type of infection. Be sure to follow the instructions on the pharmacy label and it's also important for you to take the antibiotics for as long as you were directed to do so by your doctor. If you have questions, you can call your regular doctor or you could call the ER where you were treated. Here are some of the drugs you should avoid while taking flagyl and azithromycin:

drugs that interact with flagyl: amprenavir, disulfuram, diazoxide, ethanol (alcohol), tacrolimus, typhoid vaccine, warfarin, bile acid bindinding resins, cyclosporine, exanatide, fluorouracil, lithium, tramadol, bupropion, & sildenafil.

drugs that interact with azithromycin: cisapride, phenothiazines, pimozide, chloroquine, clarithromycin, droperidol, erythromycin, haloperidol, & methadone.

  2. Ask Your Physician!!!

Don't leave your health decisions in the hands of helpful (one hopes) strangers with unknown qualifications on YA

You can look up the drugs on Wikipedia or other sources on Google, and you will generally find a section on "drug interactions", but you cannot rely on that covering all the bases.  So

ASK YOUR DOCTOR. He is paid, and indeed very well paid, to answer questions like that.

  3. Read the indications on each medicine and double check with a doc or a pharmacist.

However I expect that it will be perfectly OK. Those medicines are for two rather different types of infection. You need to be more careful about birth control and alcohol though.

  4. it wouldnt hurt but its not safe to take two types of antibiotics all at once.it says it on all containers"do not take if your are taking any other kind of medication" or it says"do not mix with other medications" etc. i would take them at the same time its not good for your body system.
