  1. 1. Because you are good at counting.

    2. Because you are in favour of retail price maintenance.

  2. Where do I start. The most important to me would be having a life outside of work. Doctors go through years of training, and work insane amount of hours during residency while getting paid nothing. As a pharmacist I will be done with everything at 25 and can start my life at an early age and enjoy my 20s. I won't have even half as much loans as a medical student would. I work my 8 hours, go home and enjoy life. The pay is great. And believe it or not, pharmacists can make a huge difference in people's lives in a retail setting. It's all about what you make of it. There is always the oppurtunity to go the extra step to help someone out, whether that means calling a patients insurance and dealing with them so they can cover a medication for them or just ensuring that there are no drug/drug interatiosn that their doctors might not be aware off. I also enjoy counseling patients. Many patients will truly appreciate what you do, and i have seen pharmacists get thank you cards, cookies baked for them etc cuz their help was much appreciated. Pharmacists are the only health professionals who provide free medical advice to patients. Knowledge wise, they know a lot. You can think of it this way, doctors are the diagnosing experts, and pharmacists are the drug therapy experts. They know about diseased states just like a doctor does, the only part they lack is in the diagnosing of the disease. But they know a lot more about drug therapy then a physician would. Also did I mention pharmacy school is a lot of fun? The reasons are endless. Every career has it's high points and low points, and i'm not saying pharmacy doesn't. But to me, pharmacy had just the right pros and cons I could live with.
