I am kind of torn between Pharmacy and Dentistry. Also for Pharmacy I don’t really what’s a better bet, a 0-6, 2-4 and 4-4 Pharmacy program.

I mean I a senior now so I have a few months until I start applying so I might change my mind and choose one over the other but I know for sure it going to Dentistry or Pharmacy and if I do choose one over the other, I will still apply to both just as backup or in case.

Science has been my favorite subjects in high school like chemistry, biology, and anatomy. And I have also have always liked Business as well.

I have thought about applying to all kinds of programs for pharmacy like 0-6 and 2-4 and 4-4……. ALL different colleges for 0-6 programs… And mostly University of Arizona for the 2-4 program… What are some other colleges for 2-4 Pharmacy????? At 2-4 Pharmacy school is it really only 2 years for pre pharmacy?????

For dentistry you need a BS or BA anyways. So I was thinking doing something like Biochemistry with pre dental or pre pharmacy requirements with a Business minor so I can get both science and business … and have time to decide between dentistry or pharmacy (which if I do pharmacy this way it would be a 4-4 program).

I hope I am right on all my info and how I have planned things out BUT ALL AND ANY advice or suggestions would be great! Thanks for the help.

  1. You seem to have done most of the research yourself!  I would say, go through 4 years.  You are a senior in high school...believe it or not...you may go to college and dislike pharmacy and/or dentistry.  It is because you will be exposed to so much more in college and will see a lot more career paths.

But...to stay on topic...take the four year undergraduate path.  I would actually say go with a Business major and maybe science minor.  You may find that you like the Business major more and may want to do more with that.  Or double major in Business and a Science.

Good luck and feel free to e-mail me with any questions at any time!

  2. hey, i was torn between pharmacy and dentistry as well....

    just look at the facts...

doing a 4+4 is a waste of 2 years...after you do the requirements for pharmacy school-

gen chem. organic chem, gen bio, calc 1 and 2, anat. and phys., physics, labs..etc you are pretty much done with a bio degree other then all the BS electives you need to take. So 2-4 and 0-6 cuts out 2 years of worthless classes. The beauty of doing 2-4 is that you finish all of the classes required for med school, pharmacy school, and dental school- they all have the same basic requirements so if you are unsure that is your best bet.

apply to a 0-6 pharmacy school and if you don't like it you can always drop out after the 2nd year and not be behind any of your other plans. I have friends who dropped out of rutgers pharmacy and now they are going to major in Bio and go to med school and they are ahead of other bio majors. On the other hand if you like pharmacy you already are in the school for it so you wont need to reapply and stress all over again.

if you want to do pharmacy do not do 4-4, the colleges are making pharmacy school 7 years pretty soon so if you do 4 years first chances are pharmacy will be 5 years when you get out...that's 9 years and you might as well just become a doctor.

to sum up- apply to 0-6, if you don't like it then drop out after 2nd year a go on to a bio major and apply to med/dental school. you will save a lot of time and a lot of stress.

i didn't know what i wanted to do in college so i went in undecided. i then became interested in pharmacy so i applied to the pharmacy school at rutgers my sophomore year and i was lucky enough to get in. ill be a junior this fall. apply 0-6 and 2-4 and you won't regret it- it's all the same classes and if you enjoy pharmacy then you will be a lot closer than other people not in any sort of program. best of luck and you can email me at dasilver@eden.rutgers.edu

pharmacy is a rapidly developing field
