We went to north yorkshire today on a bus trip and everywhere in the fields were pheasants. Is it a special time of year for them or are they breeding a lot more?

  1. Pheasants a bred in captivity and it was possibly a pheasant farm you passed.

  2. Probably a combination of the top two answers. Birds are less cautious during the breeding season and are seen more often in the Spring. Captivate raised birds are just naturally less cautious and allow themselves to be seen more often.

  3. pheasants in the UK are being bred captivity and a certain number are released into the wild for hunting each year.

  4. Migratory nature of birds is the reason.

  5. When the hens are on the nest the c***s will make themselves very visible for the whole time. The hens will be invisible.

The c***s will also do a lot of screeching so that they attract the attention of predators rather than have them find the hens.

They will run about 10 to 20 metres from where the nest is, never going closer.

  6. spring is breeding season for most birds
