So Michael Phelps has won 8 Gold Medals , but Was is the Man , or Was it The Suit ?

Were all his opponents wearing the same thing he was ? or did some of them come from poorer countries (than the USA) & therefore couldn't afford the "Dolphin Suit " or whatever they call it

  1. The swimmers that had a chance of competing with phelps had access to the same suits that phelps did. The difference that the suit would make would only be hundredths of a second and only a couple of races were decided by that much for him. In those races, the competition was similarly clad. Phelps didn't even wear a full body suit in the 100 fly, just a legsuit. Cavic, on the other hand, did wear a full body suit.

  2. i am pretty sure they were all wearing similar suits

but i don't think that its the suit that makes the difference

i think its how good of a swimmer they are

  3. the suit might of helped him but the man is a d**n fish, he would of won swiming in boardshorts

  4. you seriously think a suit is going to help people win a race? they all have to wear the same thing. they all had the same suits on. they all won a fair race. i don't think michael phelps would cheat if he wanted to be known as the only person to win 8 gold medals. if that was the case, he wouldn't be as happy with himself for doing it. you know what i mean? i think it was all him. :]

  5. There has been some debate about whether it could actually be his suit. You see, not all countries clothe their swimmers the same. For example, they may choose different cuts and designs which can result in a more dynamic suit. Michael phelps was trialing a new suit at the games which has caused quite a stir in the swimming community as to whether this could be the cause of his success. I remember when i was swimming and the full body suits came onto the scene. There were time differences because the swimmers body was pulled in (as most swimmers will tell you, wearing bathers 2 sizes too small helps) and pulled taut so that the body will literally glide through the water. However the suit would only have made the slightest of differences. The secret to michael phelps success is actually when he pushes off the wall from a tumble turn. He dives under all his white water (the water that is being moved with him towards the wall) and hence doesnt get pushed back towards the wall. This gives him a slight edge over all the other competitors who push off the wall quite close to the surface. I heard that apparently how he does it defies some physics laws.

Anyway i think hes a complete machine. Im not even an american but even i can appreciate such talent =]

  6. I think most of the competitors wear the same, or close to the same suits. And yes, I do think it could have made a difference. Take his swim in the 100 fly- with a different suit, he might not have had that .001 of a second. However, he is a superb swimmer either way, and I'm sure that his winning the 8 golds was mostly because of his skill, not his suit.

  7. no cause in some of them he din't even wear a full body suit and won against others who did..so i'd say no
