Michael Phelps was just another kid who was not good enough to excel in a sport people actually care about. The result......he took up swimming. And once every 4 years people pretend to care about it. The funny thing is that how many of these people attend the swim meets in between the olympics? Next to no one. I think most people who dislike Phelps are just real sports fans who don't like being told that this kid has as much talent as an NBA or NFL athlete. If he did he would play those sports. Can't wait for football to start so we can watch some real athletes!

  1. Are you flipping illiterate or what?

Definition of an athlete: a person who is trained or skilled in exercises, sports, or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina.

Ok - so now what part of Phelps doesn't fit this definition?

He competes and has won more than just in the Olympics - there are many more competitions than just every 4 years.

Now, I am not saying that Phelps can be in the NFL or NBA, cause we all know he can't...but can 1/2 (or more) of the athletes in the NBA or NFL swim as well as Phelps, yeah I am thinking not so much!

Everyone excels at different things better or worse than others. So unless Phelps comes out and says he as good or better than the NFL or NBA shut up and stop being jealous!  The two aren't even connected except for when the press speaks of how much money he is making in comparison to NFL/NBA or talking about what a great athlete he is...kind of like Tiger Woods!  Why put him down for the way the press has worded things and because your lack of knowledge and or common sense!

Have a good one!  And wish you were making 1/2 the money of any of them!

  2. Spoken like a true pro wrestling fan. While swimming may not be your cup of tea, did it ever occur to you that this guy is absolutely smoking everyone in every race and breaking records while doing it? And if Phelps sucks so badly then why is it that the entire American men's basketball team idolizes him? The guy has sacrificed everything for the last four years to fulfill this dream and jerks like you have the audacity to criticize him because he is managing to pull it off? Sorry that masturbation isn't a sport. I'm sure you would excel at it.

  3. Comparing sports is pointless and irrelevant.  They focus on different skills and disciplines.  However what sucks is that the media is calling him the greatest olympian ever.  It is wrong when countless other olympians worked their asses off and he gets all the attention.  Giving someone this title when their sport has almost 40 similar events is stupid!  Only track and field has more events and at least there is some variety with those events.  So of course he’s going to get the most medals.   In other olympic sports, you only get one medal and compete just as hard.  Other olympians who are the greatest ever in their respective sports won’t get half the attention as Phelps.  This isn’t because their sports aren’t as popular!   It’s only because of the arbitrary number of medals that keeps being shoved down the public’s throats by the media hype.

I’m not arguing the legitimacy of the sport or his ability and if you want to call him the greatest olympic swimmer, fine!  However to call him the greatest olympian ever based on biased medal count is a bunch of c**p!

Phelps fanboys and media hype suck!

  4. That's an interesting perspective. I am annoyed at the media deifying him. It's yet another person we are supposed to admire because they tell us to. It's ridiculous.

  5. wow. i absolutely love PHELPS! even though the olympics come after 4 years, those are the 4 years that the athlete can either improve to kickas* or fall of the face of this planet so that nobody remembers him. but Michael Phelps is a beast at what he does and gets all the gold medals, he brings his a game and not only beats his current competition, but the history by winning the most decorated olympian title. so there!! and he has the HOTTEST body ever to roam the earth!!

and stupid football! that is just a sport that is overrated for all its worth!

GO PHELPS, GO PHELPS, GO PHELPS!!

  6. R u kidin me..He's AMAZING!Jealous much?

  7. You had a point until you mentioned the words "real athletes"  and "NFL". How can 250lb men throwing an egg-shaped ball be considered real athletes?

  8. I think most people who like Phelps just tend to be a little more open minded and can like and appreciate lots of sports not just football and basketball.

  9. I'd love to see football players try to swim like Phelps.  Heck, I'd love to see you try.  Why don't you dive into the ocean and play with the fish for the rest of your life?

  10. What is with the hate man. First off it takes a lot of skill and athletic talent to do what he is doing. Second you are like most people i the world, you don't know a thing out the sport. I understand that the only sports you want to watch are the ones that are physical, but get over it.

You know what i am sick of, I am sick of of the love we give to the Randy Moss's of the would. He is a great wide out, one of the best ever. But he is a an ***hole. At lest Phelps looks like a decent guy. he has had 1 negative story that's all.

And if you an the rest of your jack** friend don't want to her his name then there is a simple solution. Don't watch any sports news till the games are over.

It will be over in about 9 days, after that all about is your steroid NFL, NBA, and MLB players complain about not getting en ought media attention, or not getting to play ever minute of the game, or some other cry bay thing you like to hear about.  Of course you will also get to listen to your fave rate thing professional athletes getting arrested.

  11. Your just jealous.

  12. He's achieved a new world record in earning each of his gold medals.  By the way, how many of either do you have?

  13. As far as swimming being a sport people do because they can't do any other that is so far from the truth.  Swimming is a great sport that many people watch and care about.  You may not like it but that is your choice.  I know several people who are on swim teams who do basketball, football, soccer, and wrestling.  So I have to disagree with you.  As a Mother of a son who swam in high school.  He also wrestled, played football, and did ROTC.  So I guess I don't understand why you think No One Cares About Swimming!

  14. Well said, Swimming is physically the easiest sport of the Olympics.

Swimming is physically the easiest sport of the Olympics.

It requires physical training sure, but none of the refinements of gymnastics, fencing, or the endurance of long distance running. In between the olympics it receives minimal coverage because society can only watch something so utterly boring for such a prolonged period of time.

During the olympics the American media tries to shove it down our ******* throats.

THINK ABOUT IT: THE SAME ALTHETE IS WINNING EVERY ******* TIME. That exhibits the simplicity of the sport, It is not a matter of how proficiently you execute your technique. With a few exceptions, the fastest, strongest, most agile swimmer always wins, it is like this every time.

Michael Phelps is officially the most pretentious, arrogant, bombastic athlete in Olympic History.

Swimming should be banned from the olympics and Michael Phelps medals should be confiscated.

  15. Swimming takes lots of skill. Why don't you pick it up and you'll see! It is definitely not the easiest sport ever.

Every sport takes a very large amount of effort. It is ignorant to think otherwise.

Why isn't every swimmer winning him in every single  race. hu???

I'm not asking you to admire him but to recognize.

P.S. If the only meaning of sports to you is football and basketball, then you sir have lots of learning to do.

  16. i hate how people say other sports are not real sports . You try swimming for that long , lets see how long you last .

phelps could take you anyday .

so what sport in the olympics are you in ?

    None . yea exacly .

    try training 5 hours a day .

  17. wow you ppl are so blind.. and buy into media hype like no others. Altho he is obviously a good swimmer his attitude about it is ****. hes so smug and so arrogant that he thinks he CANT be beaten. Lets not forget that in two of those races he had 3 other ppl helping him achieve his goals.. and are they mentioned? are they "American heroes"? no.. they are nothing compared to "Golden boy Phelps" Lets also not forget that mark Spitz did it first, with out special suits, with out special pools and with out a 1 million dollar incentive he did it. I think its sick that you idolize someone whos only goal was to be famous and rich. you think he gives a **** about any of you? no he gives a **** about his bank account and "status" and you guys sure gave it to him.Which isn't surprising. you guys do it on a daily basis.

  18. You're funny. Phelps was actually a really good lacrosse player and baseball player when he was younger. He went with swimming.

  19. sheesh no one said you had to watch him swim or even watch the news when he's on!

i have lots of people whining around me for the start of football, i like football too, but good grief you frikkin ladies!!! keep your gaa dam panties on!

i do beg to differ on the attendance of swim meets in between olympics though, there are plenty of people that attend and if you really knew the answer as to whether or not people attend, that would have to mean that the swim meets had actually caught your attention as well now wouldn't it?

the man's fast in the water, no contest, i doubt if you put linebackers in the water, they'll swim across that pool anywhere near as fast, oh but who cares right? cuz...linebackers have the talent of blocking a person from getting to a person behind them, man now that! that's real talent!

but really now, who's to say whether or not phelps would have been able to play football or basketball, the man chose swimming.  he's definitely got the speed, determination and will to do that, so i don't see why he wouldn't have been able to do another sport if he had chosen another sport.

oh and p.s. take hockey gal's advice, jump in the ocean and swim with the fishes....once you get tired...i'm sure you'll want help to get there fast...too bad you're too busy knocking phelps.

  20. you need to stop hatin i dont see you at the olympics

he can swim faster then you running so stop

dont hate the player hate the game

  21. so are u willin to say the same for just every sport aside from footbal? baseball? and basketball? b/c thats just narrowmindedness!

  22. you got burned so hard. i feel sorry for you if you actually read this far down.

  23. you have never swam competitively before have you, you probably can't even swim to begin with can you? and even if you could swim, i'd like to see you swim for as long and as hard as phelps does. you probably cant even make it 25 meters without tiring yourself out. swimming is not an easy sport, it takes a lot of training, endurance, and stamina. the reason why nobody really watches it is because it is never on TV to begin with. you have to be in top physical condition to be a swimmer. you call obese 325 lb linemen athletes? ha! all they do is move around for 5 seconds then walk to where the ball is spotted. yea.....great athletes.

  24. You are just jealous.

  25. I AGREE!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

  26. Jealous!!!! is like to see you do what he could. oh wait... YOU CANT!

  27. I smell some jealousy!!!

  28. ur such a hater. try swimming 8 hours day for the next four years. phelps body was made for swimming and people go to see him because they know he's one of the greatest swimmers of all time. he has just as much talent if not more than the people that play on NBA or NFL

  29. I'd gladly switch places with Phelps right now.

  30. Swimming is much harder than you think and requires the same amount of bran and brain as in NBA or NFL. I tried swimming the length of an Olympic sized pool back and forth (100 meters) and it took me around 5 minutes. And Michael Phelps doesn't stink, he already won 6 gold medals and is on the verge of winning 8. Has the USA basketball team ever done that?... NO
