I need a simple explaination of the difference between a Phenotype and Genotype and what the importance is in considering genetic disease.

I have information on it but just need clarification for my own theory.

Thanks for your help.

  1. genotype is the genetic make-up of an organism, phenotype is how it presents itself in the organism physically.

  2. the easiest way to remember as being teach by my lecturer..

Phenotype = Physical = you can see

Genotype = Gene = you cant see

    PEACE =D

  3. genotype- is like the genetic make-up of a person (so like the genes that make them well them basically)

phenotype- is like the physical appearance.

i cant exactly answer the other question.

  4. pretty much everyone else is right!!

gentotype is the arrangement of genes (e.g. the genes for blue eyes)

phetotype is the appearance these genes represents (e.g. someone with blue eyes- what you see)

with regards to genetic disease i would say understanding the genotypes of a particular genetic disease will help you see what faults lie within the gene- if you look at the genotype of a genetic disease and you see a certain gene contains a mutation then you could treat it or research the treatment at least...

hope this helps, but everyones answer is spot on!!!

  5. genotype: genetics/genetic make-up of an organism.

phenotype: what they look like, so their physical characteristics.

    to remember just remember gen=genetics

i dont understand the next part though, the importance in considering genetic disease.....maybe the phenotype tells us the symptoms of it and the genotype confirms it through tests?

  6. Genotype: The Genetic makeup of a person or thing. Think gen- genetic.

Phenotype: Physical, outer appearance. Think ph- physical.
