http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Bardsley-c29900, the 27-year-old Sunderland defender, has revealed he believes the Black Cats can earn European qualification in the upcoming season.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Scotland-c756 international feels his side need to bring in reinforcements to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season. Bardsley is certain that would result in a stronger squad which could challenge for a place in the European competition next season.
This will be Martin O’Neill’s first full season at the club after taking over from Steve Bruce mid-season last term. Under Bruce the Black Cats were struggling in the English Premier League and found themselves in the relegation zone.
Bruce was sacked as a result and former Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill was brought in to replace him. He had to make do with the existing squad and did not bring in any new signings in the winter transfer window of the 2011-2012 season.
However, this time around, the Irish manager is expected to bring in new signings. Bardsley felt signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-c8346 Cuellar indicated that Sunderland were looking to improve their standing in the Premier League in the upcoming season.
Bardsley said in an interview:
“Carlos Cuellar has come in and bolstered the squad so it is great news for us and hopefully there are a few more faces on the way to help us head in the direction we want to go in this season.”
The defender also felt that after Carlos Cuellar, Sunderland would go on to sign more players before the end of the summer transfer window. According to Bardsley, it was important for his side to improve their standing in the Premier League and aim for a
spot in Europe.
He wanted desperately for the Black Cats to finish in the top ten and felt pre-season training was extremely important for them to train and prepare for the new season.
He continued:
“Obviously finishing in the top 10 and pushing for Europe, with the quality of players we have got in the squad and if we make additions, that should be our aim.
It is up to the players now to knuckle down in pre-season, work as hard as we can and be fresh for the start.”
