Phil Davis: Rashad Evans should not consider me a soft, easy opponent – UFC news
Phil Davis, the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) sixth best light heavyweight, is confident and has reiterated the fact that he will not let Rashad Evans, the former light heavyweight champion, leave the octagonal ring with a swift and easy victory.
The 27-year-old Phil made these comments in response to Rashad’s arrogant and boastful talks, in which he claimed that his UFC on Fox2 opponent is a boy who doesn’t know how to fight and in order to corroborate his statement he put forth Davis’ recent
fight against Antônio Rogério Nogueira.
Phil Davis and Rashad Evans are scheduled to take on each other on Saturday January 28, 2012, and will headline the pay-per-view UFC on Fox 2: Evans vs Davis. The bout and the whole event will be staged at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Davis and Evans are totally in-equivalent competitors. Davis is a young boy who hails from America and has been in just nine UFC bouts, winning all but unfortunately he has not captured the title yet.
Evans, who is infamous by the name Suga or Sugar, is weak when it comes to submission tactics, whereas Davis is considered to be sturdy enough to outclass the toughest submissions. The scenario becomes favourable for Davis only if he is able to lock
Suga in any of his submission manoeuvres.
The only facets that diminish Davis, nicknamed as Mr. Wonderful, chances of winning over Evans is his lack of experience, agility and deficiency in producing powerful punches. Evans heavily relies on his forceful, pounding capability. The current number
four light heavyweight has knocked out 6 of his opponents, capturing a total of 16 wins in 18 bouts.
Above all, Evans is far more resilient than Davis. He never gives up which is the main reason as to why 8 of his bouts ended with unanimous decisions in his favour. The fierceness and lethalness of Evans is undoubtedly a matter of concern for the young
Davis, but he is convinced that he can not only give a tough time to his widely experienced opponent but can also capture a win over him.
While replying to Evans comments Phil said, “I'm definitely feeling a lot better than I did before 133. I just, my legs couldn't go. I couldn't go and that's a hard feeling but I definitely feel better than that. I feel great. My body is feeling great
and I was able to train pretty hard for this fight.”
