Phil Hughes bows out of Big Bash League – Cricket News Update
Australia’s Phil Hughes has decided to pull away from the Big Bash Twenty20 League in order to concentrate on improving his batting for Test cricket. He will be taking part in the three-day practice game against the Indians, starting from Monday, December
19, 2011.
The opening batsman has been struggling for consistency over the past one year and is likely to be axed from the side, which will play the first Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 on the Boxing Day.
Hughes was brought in the Australian Test side in the Ashes series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SM-Katich-c2543, but was unable to make an impression in any game.
However, the left-handed batsman was retained for the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 despite not being able to score runs with consistency.
During the two-match Test encounter against the Kiwis, Hughes failed to make any significant contribution and was dismissed in almost the similar manner every time he came out to bat.
The 23-year-old was disappointed over his poor run of form and stated, “Following my performances over the last few months, I have decided that, right now, I need to be completely focus on my first-class cricket career.”
The youngster further revealed that he had discussed things with Sydney Thunder, team he had to represent in Big Bash, and Cricket Australia (CA) before ending his contract for the Twenty20 league.
According to Hughes, “I talked with Pup (captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746) to ensure that
they would be comfortable for me to step away from my contract with the Thunder.”
Apart from Hughes, a couple of other players were also criticised for not being able to deliver against the Black Caps, but the Aussie coach confirmed that there will not me many change in the squad for the Indian series.
Arthur also backed veteran players http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MEK-Hussey-c1942, who have struggled to score runs recently, saying that their experience will be quite useful for the team.
