Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has confirmed that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Jones-c29903 will miss out on the next couple of weeks of football, due to an ankle ligament injury.
Jones was part of United’s starting eleven against Arsenal, but in the first half, as he looked to prevent http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Walcott-c34873 from striding towards the United goal, he slipped and fell awkwardly to the floor.
Following a few minutes on the ground, the player was then stretchered off and replaced just moments later.
At first, it seemed unclear as to what the problem was, but Alex Ferguson has now confirmed that the defender has gone on to damage the ligaments in his ankle.
Ferguson has estimated the defender to miss out on around three to four weeks of football, while admitted that the injuries probably don’t just end with Jones, as Carrick is also suffering from a hamstring injury of his own.
When talking about Jones, the manager is quoted to have said: "It's not good news for us"
"I think Jones will be out for a few weeks - it's ankle ligaments.”
A disappointed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson then went on to highlight Carrick and the possibility of him missing out on a few weeks of football, as he added: "Carrick was feeling his hamstring in the second half and he just had to sit in the middle of the pitch."
Despite all these injuries that United suffered, they still managed to beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 by two goals to one. In doing so, the team maintained its pressure on Manchester City and kept the gap between the two teams at three points.
Should both Carrick and Jones miss out on a couple of games for United, it would be a wonder as to just who the manager would play instead of the duo.
The Red Devils are already suffering from their fair share of injuries and the squad has already taken a hit or two.
Nonetheless, with the list of injured players at the club growing by the day, Ferguson could potentially be tempted into spending money in the January transfer window, as he looks to bring in a player or two as back up, or in order to strengthen the team even further.
