Golf news: Phil Mickelson’s life before the Deutsche Bank Championship 2010
According to Phil Mickelson, you win you lose but striving to always win isn’t really a smart move. Many would say he’s right but many would disagree too. Considering this man’s earlier performances, he is a player who has everything a person could ask for. The current Deutsche Bank Championship sent Phil Mickelson along with Luke Donald with empty hands from Boston.
At the current event, Donald had his hopes up in winning the tournament in 4 years. Mickelson, on the other hand, wanted the title for himself so that he could attain the top spot for the first time in his career. The pair had high goals but fate favoured Charley Hoffman in the end.
Mickelson is known to be a person with great self control. After Phil won his first major, he didn’t spend much of his time in expensive parties or famous gatherings; rather he spent most of his time with his friends and family. At four years of age everyone could see the star that Mickelson was becoming. He won his first putting contest when he was 4 but at the age of 40, he lost a golden chance to get to the top.
Mickelson failed to follow the white light towards victory and ended up losing. Had Mickelson won this time, he would have taken the world number one position from Tiger Woods, which was obviously not the case. Woods has been holding the top spot for the total number of 273 weeks. He played a 68, which pushed him to end outside the top ten. Woods performance was unbelievable, since he had three rounds back-to-back in sixties, this being totally unexpected happened for the first time to Woods in a whole year, and he fell down the ladder the same way Mickelson did.
After missing the putt on the 15th, Mickelson’s expression gave out nothing but frustration and agitation. At the 10th hole, Mickelson played an unforgivable triple bogey and missed one at the 11th representing how the mighty falls.
Donald was also striving towards the top of the boards at the Deutsche Championship. He had a 2 stroke lead and had 11 holes to go but the sensational Hoffman stole the lead. Hoffman played at the 11th hole hitting a pin, and at 12th he holed a bunker. In the first sixteen holes, the long-haired golfer had only 19 putts.
Donald’s speed faltered, when he missed fairways on back to back 4 holes. However, he did try his best to maintain his position in the game but came under pressure. With Hoffman claiming his win on 62, Donald was tied for the second place with a 69.
The top-seventy from this championship will move to the next event in Chicago, which will also include Paul Casey and Brian Davis.
Paul Casey who is one of the controversial topics in the Ryder Cup has been playing well to attain two of his highly important goals with one being personal and the second being able to play the US Tour Championship, which is the final event of the FedEx Cup. The FedEx Cup is only eligible for those who make it to the top 30 and Casey is currently on the 21st position. Davis has his hands filled with a lot of work. He is standing on the number 47, and if he needs to make it to the final event, the Englishmen need to work really hard this week.
Phil stands as the real Masters Champion in the golf arena who is much respected. For many who need a lesson, his long years of golf stand as a fine example, which can be cherished by many in the lot. Phil’s interest in golf was there even when he was a child. In his school days, Phil Mickelson’s love for golf knew no bounds. His sixth-grade project wasn’t about a volcano and its eruption; Mickelson’s passion for golf spoke for itself. His science project was about determining which compression of the golf club would be the best for young golfers to achieve the best game. Phil was much loved by all the teachers and considering the phrase “my favourite teacher” it worked exceptionally well for Mickelson giving him an easy time at school but after growing up he realized that mere phrases and science projects don’t really help.
