Phil Mickelson all ready for next month’s Masters Tournament – PGA Tour Update
Defending Masters Champion Phil Mickelson did not look comfortable while competing in WGC-Cadillac championship which concluded on Sunday. There was something missing in his game which let him down during the tournament. He finished tied for the 55th
spot after the final round of the tournament.
Phil will now be heading for the Arnold Palmer Invitational which is scheduled for next week. He was rather disappointed with his short game during the last week’s tournament. The 40-year-old Professional Golfer’s Association Tour player has loads of experience
on his shoulders and was unhappy with his performance. Mickelson will also be participating in the Houston Open at the end of this month, before the all important Masters starts next month.
The Ryder Cup member finished way down on the leader board and only had a single under-par round during the four day event. He had sixteen birdies, thirty eight pars, sixteen bogeys and two double bogeys. Mickelson’s total aggregate score for the championship
was four-over par, 292. The statistics of the player clearly shows that the class was clearly missing in his hitting and putting.
During an interview with the media, he said, "I need a little bit more competitive golf. I've got some work to do on the practice range with my coach and caddie. My confidence level is not high as I have not been shooting under par rounds and my short game
is a concerning factor for me."
Mickelson already has not had a great start to the season. His scores are average and he has not finished among the top-ten in any single tournament played. The three-time Masters champion also did not play well in the WGC-Accenture Match Play championships
and lost to the youngster Rickie Fowler in the second round.
It was an amazing win last year for Mickelson when he won his third green jacket at the Masters. He won by a margin of three shots over world number two Lee Westwood of England. Mickelson totally dominated last year during the tournament, as he played some
of the most amazing shots of his career. The veteran still cherishes the memory of his second shot on the par-5, 15th where his tee shot was stuck behind a pine tree. His second shot landed inside 12 feet of the hole and went on to make a birdie.

The best of Mickelson is yet to be seen this year. The world number five will be hoping to show a better performance in the tournament starting next week. The short game has always been his best feature. Phil’s friend, Tiger Woods has yet to roar again in
the golfing arena.
Woods did make a slight come-back by finishing in the top-ten in the Cadillac championship. He carded a round of six-under par, 66 on the final day to improve in position. This was definitely a confidence booster for the former world number one, as it was
his first top-10 finish in this year. The fourteen time major champion is also confident of improving further before the Masters starts.
Mickelson already has confirmed his participating in the tournament starting next week. The 40-year-old wants to take up the challenge in the Masters and defend his title.
