Phil Mickelson amazed by a twelve year old HSBC Junior
The China golf association recently arranged a Junior Programme with the HSBC and awarded the winner of a qualifying event, Lucy s**+ Yuting to play with the event’s defending champion, Philip Alfred Mickelson.
It hasn’t been long since the lefty, Phil Mickelson had marvelled at the Chinese golf talent and said that the Chinese golfers would soon be seen ruling the top of the world rankings.
The Qualifying winner, Lucy s**+ Yuting played alongside Phil Mickelson at the 17th hole Sheshan golf club Pro-am and achieved a stunning par. The twelve year old started her play at the 17th hole with a huge smile and used a six
iron to drive. Yuting played from the ladies tee and brilliantly used her shot to around 155 yards to 15 feet. The young female golfer achieved a lip out after her putt and concluded her 17th hole with a par.
According to Mickelson, Yuting had played an amazing game. He said that the twelve year old has a solid swing and a wonderful stroke when it comes to putting.
“I hope Yuting continues playing like this” Mickelson said.
The star carded a total score of 64 and collected nine marvellous birdies at the Pro-am. The twelve year old has a total of 13 wins this season at the national HSBC junior age-group competitions and played the 18 hole pro-am in
an amazing manner. Yuting played like Tiger Woods in China and is a Jiyai Shin in the making.
“That was a total of 64” said the coach from the China Golf Association regarding her score.
Other than Phil Mickelson, Colin Montgomerie also appeared at the Sheshan course to encourage and work with the HSBC juniors. The 2010 Ryder Cup skipper spent a total of one hour on the course and congratulated and gasped in amazement
as the young golfers displayed their play at the practice rounds.
According to Monty, “the kids aren’t playing golf just for the sake of hitting shots”
The forty seven year old said that these young golfers are playing a formal game of golf and there isn’t much adjustment their technique needs. Monty was highly impressed with the adolescent’s follow throughs and turns.
Coming back to Phil Mickelson, he has full plans on building China's talent further and has already initiated his preparations. The 1992 turned professional is inaugurating his one brand new course and one academy this June near
Beijing. Other than that, he will be opening one resort and academy in approximately two years at Kunming.
