Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods will compete against each other in Doral Miami
Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods are in the field of the World Golf Championships - Cadillac Championship, becoming tough competitive rivals for each other.
In the current year, Mickelson displayed a better game than Woods. He has been tremendous since January and has competed well in most of the tournaments.
He played five events up till now and won the title of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. He had also secured the runner-up position in a play-off mode at the Northern Trust Open.
He further improved his rankings to the 12th position and is now preparing to take off at the Cadillac Championship.
"I'm glad to be back in the mix. I'm glad to be back playing well again ... to be making putts again. This is a different year for me for one simple reason – my putter is back. I can roll it again, and it feels terrific. I believe I'm going to make them
even when I don't," Mickelson said.
On the other hand, Woods faced challenging strokes from the others at both the European Tour and the PGA Tour, since January.
He had played three tournaments at the PGA and one at the European Tour. He failed to display impressive finishes.
However, he amazingly finished the Honda Classic on the second, by scoring enormously on Sunday, in the final round.
This was his best finish of the year and he also boosted his ranking to the 16th position.
However, Woods is still looking to win a title since 2009. He had won 19 times at the WGC staged tournaments and has also ample chances to end his winless career in the upcoming tournament.
Hence, Mickelson and Woods are in live competition, as both are hoping to reach the top of the leaderboard.
Similarly, their desires are challenged by Rory McIlroy, who has just achieved the world’s No. 1 spot after winning the Honda Classic.
His presence in the field is making the tournament more appealing and tough for both the Americans.
There are also ample opportunities for McIlroy as well to lead the scores over Mickelson and Woods.
"We have not had somebody play to the (once-dominant) level of Tiger," Mickelson said.
He went on, "And so we have four, five, six guys battling for the No. 1 spot, it seems, monthly. I don't know where it will all settle, but certainly (McIlroy) is worthy".
The field is tough and only impressive scoring can benefit the players. The TPC Blue Monster at Doral Miami will be staging the toughest tournament this week.
