Phil Mickelson commits to play the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open – Golf news
Phil Mickelson has confirmed his participation in the European Tour’s Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open. The tournament is set to be staged at the Castle Stuart Golf Links, from July 11 to 14, 2013.
For the last one decade, Mickelson has showed continuous support for Scotland’s national open, as he participated in eight of the last 10 editions of the event. This year, he is set to make his hat-trick of appearances at Castle
Stuart, before the event moves to the prestigious Royal Aberdeen Golf Club next year.
“It’s always a real pleasure for me to add the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open to my schedule,” said Mickelson. “Playing Castle Stuart gives me a great opportunity to be competitive against a world class field on a links
course the week before The British Open.”
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he also praised the layout of the course and how Mark Parsinen and Gil Hanse, architects of Castle Stuart, designed the course.
“Mark Parsinen and Gil Hanse did a wonderful job on the course,” said the four-time major winner. “As golf course architects, those guys recognise that golf is not about hitting the ball longer and harder; it's about fun, creativity,
memorable shots and holes that don’t have to beat you up all the time.”
The two-time Asian Tour Order of Merit winner and the defending champion Jeev Milkha Singh, in the meantime, has also confirmed to the scene of his sudden-death playoff victory last year.
The 2012 edition of the tournament witnessed the Indian locking a 17-under par tournament score, to enter into the sudden-death playoffs with Francesco Molinari, where a birdie on the first extra hole was enough to defeat his opponent.
He is now confident that his past record in the tournament will greatly help him in contending strongly for his title defence this season.
Molinari, on the other hand, is hoping to go one better this time, after missing out on the chance of recording his fourth European Tour victory last season.
The tickets to see Mickelson, Singh and many other European Stars are out for sale now, for just £70. The ticket price will increase to £80, if you buy them from the gate.
