Phil Mickelson continues his aim of ruling the course
Regarded as one of the most prominent golfers of all time, Phil Mickelson was able to establish his reputation in golf after winning the Pebble Beach tournament.
The very next event proved to be a jolt when he lost the playoffs at Riviera. For all his fans, the performance from the 41-year-old has always been quite sporadic.
According to pundits, Mickelson’s good or bad performance is equally probable. The West Coast Swing is a prominent example of this.
Following a rather lukewarm beginning when there were bleak chances of the golfer to make it among the top 25 in the first three events, the aforementioned one acted as his major breakthrough.
He was able to take on his major rival Tiger Woods in the final round by defeating him in the most convincing manner.
Then at Riviera, he was able to card 66 to pave way into the final round.
However, in front of the massive birdies shot by Bill Hass, Mickelson and Keegan Bradley had no chance for survival.
"I get on hot streaks and I play to win," Mickelson said. "I'm going to go for it. I'm going to play aggressive".
He added, "And when I'm playing well, I make birdies and end up either in contention or winning. When I don't have it, my mistakes are going to be big".
He further added, "The way I look at the game, I want to try to win, and if I'm on, I usually have a good opportunity to win".
With his 48 professional wins, Mickelson has been able to establish the reputation of a superior golfer in the mainstream of the game.
The American golfer is however, looking to at least increase his number of victories to 50 before he makes any official announcement about his retirement from golf.
Even though, Mickelson is in perfect form today, but just a couple of years back, he was going through a tough time.
Back in 2006, he was experiencing a slump in his career when at the US Open he made some of the most horrendous shots of his career.
He scored a double bogey on the shot he carded that went straight into a hospitality tent. With new aim and vigour, Mickelson is all set to reinitiate his career in golf.
