Phil Mickelson cycles to Castle Stuart to promote Barclays Scottish Open
Phil Mickelson adopted a new method of promoting the Barclays Scottish Open and that is through riding a bicycle all the way to Castle Stuart, where the 140th edition of the European Tour event will take place.
The 41-year-old is part of the field which is preparing for the Barclays Scottish Open. The veteran is not only enthusiastic for competing in the event, but is also keen on promoting it. For this purpose, he sat on a bicycle with the logo of Barclays imprinted on its wheels.
The world number six addressed the press after cycling 447 miles to the venue. He said while speaking to reporters present at Castle Stuart, “I love playing the week before a Major and getting acclimatised. I feel on the time schedule and ready to play. Castle Stuart is co-designed by Gil Hanse, one of my favourite designers. I think he incorporates what a course should be – fun and exciting and some great holes like short par threes and driveable par fours.”
Mickelson is all set to return to Loch Lomond, where the tournament is about to kick off. According to him, he is confident regarding his form and believes his game is appropriate for the link-styled courses of Scotland that are known for pins located on the edge of the cliffs.
“I am really excited. I feel my game is right there and I have always enjoyed playing in the Barclays Scottish Open,” added the veteran.
However, Mickelson also claimed that there were chances of the event being a high scoring one. Fog and rain was expected during the four-day session, therefore saving pars would be a crucial task. However, Mickelson was of the opinion that taking the weather factor out of the equation, the course had the potential stage a birdie fiesta.
Loch Lomond is the last stop before golf hits St George Golf Club for the Open Championship and it is a perfect practice ground for the major, owing to it bearing resemblance with the venue for the major.
