Phil Mickelson discloses his health issues
Phil Mickelson, the World’s Second ranked golfer, is being treated for psoriatic arthritis.
Talking to the media on Tuesday, Phil Mickelson said that he was suffering from psoriatic arthritis. A disease, where the body's immune system attacks cells, tissues, and bones, causing inflammation, and, pain in the joints, and, tendons.
However, Phil Mickelson is going through strict medication and therapy but he is expecting a 100% recovery very soon. Currently Phil is feeling much more content as compared to his condition in the past. According to Phil Mickelson’s therapist, the situation is looking way better than it was before, in fact in the long term there won’t be any health issues for the player as the ailment is treatable and the medication given to him is very strong.
Phil Mickelson is taking part in the 92nd PGA championship that is being held at the Whistling Straits, Wisconsin from 12th August to 15th August, 2010.The question that is arising in the minds of the analysts is whether Phil is going to recover from the health issue or it will continue affecting his overall game.
However, if one goes through a quick recap of Phil Mickelson’s finishes in the past, a certain trend is seen. He was 48th in the British open whereas he missed the cut at the Scottish Open that took place at the famous venue of Old course at St Andrews. All this time, Phil Mickelson was undergoing self treatment, but after the British Open he paid a visit to the Mayo Clinic which is situated in Rochester Minnesota, USA. There he was given treatment which he is continuing till date. However, he was also admitted for a full fledge check-up that lasted for two days. Phil is taking a shot of Enbrel, once in seven days to prevent his immune system from affecting his joints and tendons.
Moreover, to achieve the 100% fitness tag, Phil Mickelson has changed his diet plan.  From eating beef burgers five times a day he is on vegetables now. One can see how determined the player is to strike back at the course that he has left the second passion was his life which was, high calorie food.
Going back into the past, the first symptoms of the disease started appearing five days before the U.S. Open. According to media reports, Phil said that when he woke up, he experienced a strange pain in his entire body especially in the bones and joints. The pain was so severe that it became hard for the American golfer to walk. Slowly the condition became worse although it did not affect his game in the US Open, 2010.Not to forget, Phil Mickelson was 4th on the leader board on the final day and he played very well although he was often seen experiencing problems with his swing. But no one realized that there was something else which was wrong.
Phil Mickelson has been dealing with health issues ever since his mother and wife were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009.Acording to the 40-year-old, the problems started appearing right after his birthday when he told his wife, Amy, that he felt stronger and much more flexible than he was in the past.
Phil Mickelson was seen in the practice round of 9 holes on Tuesday, where he played next to Jeff Overton and Steve Marino to see whether he was fit for the championship or not. To sum it up, Phil Mickelson is heading towards the 92nd PGA Championship which is taking place at the course of Whistling Straits, Wisconsin from 12th August to 15th August, 2010. Although, he is suffering from arthritis, he is still determined to swing his club towards the top of the leader board.
