Phil Mickelson experiments with his putting grip again
Phil Mickelson is known to be an experimenter. He keeps doing different stuff to improve his game.  Last year during the playoffs, he surprised everybody by using the Belly Putter and this time around, he has once again toyed with his putting grip.
Lefty is using some version of the claw putting grip this time around. Claw putting grip is not a very defined grip. Every player can modify it a little to suit his game but in general the experts call it the claw putting grip.
The claw putting grip keeps the wrist firm and allows the shoulder to make the stroke. This keeps the flow of the swing balanced.
This new experiment did work out for him, as he shot is first bogey free round since his victory at the Pebble beach. He shot three 3-under 68 at the TPC Boston on Friday although he is six shots adrift of the leader but overall it is a solid start by him.
“I feel really good on the short ones, and the only two (putts) I missed, I actually hit right where I wanted to – good speed and just misread it a touch,” Mickelson said.
Lefty is extremely delighted with the way things have shaped up for him. He feels a few more good rounds can lead him to be in contention for the title on Monday.
Phil had adjusted his putter to his perfection. He has added a little more weight to it, that keeps his stroke in balance. This type of putter works perfectly on the faster greens where it is difficult to control the ball.
Mickelson said that he does not know the name of this grip but some of his friends use this grip and they putt extremely well this, so he tried it out. Well so far it looks good for him too, as he has improved a little but it is too early to say that this
type of grip is best suited for him.
“I’ve been playing well and giving too many shots around the green back, and I feel really good with how I’m rolling it” Mickelson said.
