Phil Mickelson has 58 percent chance of winning US Open according to PGA conducted polls
According to the polls conducted at the official website of Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour, 58 percent people believe Phil Mickelson will win the US Open, while 42 percent think otherwise.
Polls are being conducted at the PGA Tour website and the purpose of the polls is to extract the general perception of the public. The results however, are quite the opposite of what critics have been saying recently.
According to critics, Mickelson won’t relish success in lifting the Claret Jug because of several reasons. Included in those reasons is the age barrier, which according to the experts would act as a major hurdle in his path to victory. Their opinion isn't baseless though, in the 111-year history of the tournament, only thrice has any player above the age of forty managed to win the title. In last eleven years, all the winners were young and fell under the age of forty.
However, when one looks at the current form of the player, a second thought climbs into the mind. Mickelson competed in 12 events at the start of the season and he successfully made the cut in all of them. Moreover, four times he finished in top ten, once in top two and once won a title. Owing to the amount of money he earned through these finishes, the American attained the fifth place on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
Moreover, he finished tied in ninth place at AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, which took place at Pebbles Beach, California. Pebble beach is considered as the second toughest course in the United States, with Congressional Country Club being the most treacherous. Many would argue that since Mickelson managed to conquer Pebbles Beach, he increased his chances of winning the US Open as well.
Mickelson is the peoples' choice for US Open, however, whether he will be able to live up to those expectations is a question which can only be answered by Mickelson himself.
