Phil Mickelson keen to finish the 2012 golf season on a high note
The three-time Masters champion Phil Mickelson has set his sights on winning the Barclays Singapore Open, in a bid to finish the 2012 golf season on a high note.
The US$6 million event, which is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the European Tour, will be played at the Sentosa Golf Club, from November 8 to 11, 2012.
The Barclays Singapore Open is the last event on Mickelson’s schedule this year. Therefore, he desperately wants to end the season on a positive note.
Earlier this year, the left-handed player recorded a victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and marked a strong start to his campaign this season.
In his first 12 starts, he recorded a total of five top-10 finishes. Thereafter, he lost his form and spent seven events without a single top-30 finish.
During the US PGA Tour Playoffs, he regained his form and finished tied for the fourth, second and the fifteenth position in the last three tournaments, respectively.
Last week, he participated in the last of the four World Golf Championships of the season, the HSBC Champions, and finished tied for the second place. This week, he plans to go one place better, in one of the richest golf tournaments in Asia.
“This is my last tournament of the year, I'll have some things going on in the off-season, but my next tournament will most likely be in Palm Springs,” he said.
He added, “I've had really tough three or four months when I played some of my worst golf in my career - it's turning out to be one of the best things that has happened for me because it forced me to analyse my game and dissect it and put each part back”.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he stated that he had to work on each and every aspect of his game, starting from iron-play to chipping, putting and driving.
“I've had to piece my game back and now since the PGA, I've played better golf every single week,” he said.
Talking about the course conditions, he said that the Sentosa Golf Club features some of the toughest holes in the Asian region.
However, his six-year playing experience on the venue course will provide him advantage over his competitors.
