Phil Mickelson keeps the wheel rolling at the Northern Trust Open
It has not been long since Phil Mickelson grabbed the trophy at Montreal Peninsula after winning the Pebble Beach event.
He was much relaxed and at peace, especially after defeating his long time rival, Tiger Woods, in the final round of the event.
However, he just sidelined to understand that it was just the beginning of a new roller coaster ride.
With the Northern Trust welcoming him as the comeback kid, he was all set and geared to keep the wheel of victory in motion.
Above all, the journey did prove to be an exciting one, especially in terms of starting championship.
The 41-year-old golfer was able to hit the driver from just under 300 yards on par-5.
The shot selection helped him earn a birdie for the 11th hole that enabled him to conclude his game in a mind blowing manner at Riviera.
In addition to this, he was further able to stabilise his condition with the help of the eagle, two-putt birdie on one of the three holes he chose to play on.
Owing to all these shots, he was able to pat himself on the shoulder while walking back to the hotel room.
"I didn't think it was going to necessarily be reachable into that wind, but I was able to hit a low drive off the tee that scooted along the ground, and I felt like if I could hit one more of those with a driver I could get right up by the green," Mickelson
said.
Other major players on the campaign opening day of the event include J.B. Holmes, who made his return to the golf course following a brain surgery.
His six final holes went without a par with his round ending with a 31-yard tee shot.
This was later followed by an approach to 8 feet for a birdie at the ninth hole of the course, which is regarded as being the toughest hole in the golf course of Riviera.
Moreover, Jonathan Byrd was able to effectively weather the blustery conditions of the golf course by ending his game of the day at 68.
Experts believe that in subsequent days, the excitement and exhilaration of the event will definitely rise and attract greater interest of people in the championship.
