Phil Mickelson makes fun of Tiger Woods decision to avoid media ahead of Wells Fargo Championship
The media vary Tiger Woods has now apparently made himself a laughing stock with his decision to avoid the pre-round press conference ahead of the Wells Fargo Championship.
The former world number one decided to release a video of a Q&A session before the event where he has given answers to many of the questions he had been receiving from his fans via the Social Media.
Mark Steinberg, Woods’ agent has said earlier of the new strategy and insisted that Woods wanted to interact more with his fans rather than the media people.
Phil Mickelson, one of the top-ranked players in the field this week, took a jab at Woods while entering the press room yesterday and jokingly remarked, “Didn’t you guys see my video?”
Woods’ latest decision to avoid the ever prowling media, probably finds its roots at this year’s Masters where the former world number world fell for a disastrous joint 40th, his lowest finish ever at the Augusta National.
Mickelson also talked about his performance at the Masters where he finished for a joint third.
He said, “When I look back on that Masters I don’t look at it as a mistake, (whereas) the ’06 U.S. Open where I hit a tree with my second shot. Most people look at that and think the drive (at the 72nd hole) was what cost me that tournament. I drove it like
that the whole week”.
Mickelson, who won his last Masters episode in 2010 is known for his penchant for the treacherous Augusta National and has won the coveted event for a whooping three times.
While discussing the major events, Mickelson always repents his close encounters at the US open where he came close to lifting the title on so many titles but has never won it.
He added, “At the Masters I don’t have a shot like (the ’06 Open) because quite honestly it’s in my miss area”.
The 41-year-old Mickelson paid a heavy price for the disastrous triple-bogey 6 on the fourth hole on Sunday at Augusta National which consumed his chances of landing the green jacket for the fourth time.
