Phil Mickelson makes the Ryder Cup Team
With the end of the majors for the year, the best players in the world of golf are headed towards the 2012 Ryder Cup. This is going to be the biggest and the most prestigious event of the year, as the best in the world are going against each other.
The Ryder Cup is the most unique cup, as in it the European team plays against the American team. The venue for this marvellous cup is the Medinah Country Club, which is situated just outside Chicago.
The Ryder Cup will open for the public on the 22nd of September but the actual tournament is going to tee off on the 28th of September and being a three-day event, it is going to end on the 30th of September.
This year the captain for the European team is the Spanish professional golfer, Jose Maria Olazabal and the captain for the American team is Davis Love.
All the American players are trying their level best to get selected in the U.S Team. There are only 12 spots and already 9 of them have been occupied.
The list of players trying to play in the Ryder Cup this year also includes Phil Mickelson. There was only one qualifying spot left for the players. After this, the rest of the players are going to be from the captain’s choice.
On this Sunday at the U.S PGA Championship, Mickelson qualified for the Ryder Cup U.S Team by occupying the eighth and the last spot.
Before this year’s Ryder Cup, he has made eight appearances in the Cup and this year, it is going to be a record ninth appearance.
The player did not complete the job at the U.S major. After a very disappointing two-over par on the last day, he was below the top thirty players and had to wait to see if someone overtakes him on the points or not.
For Mickelson, Bo Van Pelt was the biggest danger. Van Pelt had to finish on the second spot to qualify but unfortunately for the player, he failed to do so. Therefore, once again Mickelson qualified.
