Phil Mickelson not considered as all time great
Phil Mickelson has never been considered as one of the greatest golfers that have ever lived, the sole reason being Tiger Woods, Sam Snead and Jack Nicklaus.
There are some golfers who have what it takes and some who do not. It is not that the players do not work that hard, it is just that, some golfers have more of what it takes to be the best.
Through the course of the years, Mickelson has been overshadowed by a force called Woods.
Tiger Woods changed the way the game is played. The way he dominated the course showed as if he is on the Professional Golf Association playing with some amateurs.
Although this was not the case, they were still the top golfers in the world but Woods belonged to a totally different class than the rest.
A few years back, the rivalry between Woods and Mickelson started on the fairways. However, it is fair to say that the rivalry was made up by the media to spice up the tour and create a sense of competition because Woods was not letting anyone steal his
show.
Mickelson joined the Tour before Woods did but with four major championship titles to his name Michelson has a record that cannot be compared to that of Woods.
Mickelson has always been considered second best to Woods and was never able to surpass his record. Woods has won 14 major championships.
There were times that Woods was tested by Mickelson but these were just glimpses. The left handed golfer, Mickelson does not carry the same aura around him that the golfer of that aptitude requires.
Golf has its greats, Jack Nicklaus was a force that reshaped the game of golf and took the game to newer heights.
He played at a time when there were better rivals, more competitive and resilient. Regardless of that, Nicklaus got the better of them almost every time he stepped onto the course.
Nevertheless, Mickelson is a great golfer and his potential cannot be denied. He has given a lot to the sport.
