Phil Mickelson produces a round of magic
The last major of the year, the U.S. PGA Championship is in full swing. Thousands of fans have gathered at the prestigious Kiawah Island Golf Resort, the Ocean Course, to witness the best in the world of golf to fight it out for the Championship.
The event started on the 9th of August and being a four-day event, it is supposed to end on the 12th of August.
As the first day of the major comes to an end, the players tried their best to put on a good score and to impress the spectators. Phil Mickelson is a player who did not have an impressive score but managed to play a very impressive round.
Mickelson’s game had it all. He made many good shots. Some of them were from the sand. He also missed some sitters on the green and made some blind approaches from the rough to within 15 feet of the hole.
Without a doubt, this was the most entertaining round of golf in a very long time. It was sheer bad luck that the American professional golfer was not able to register a good score.
Mickelson had a decent score on the front nine. He started off with a bogey on the very first hole which was followed by a birdie. He carded another birdie on the fifth hole.
Towards the end, he scored another bogey and another birdie on the seventh and eighth hole. These made his score one-under par on the first nine holes.
His back nine was not as good as his front nine. On the back nine, he only carded two bogeys on the tenth and fourteenth hole. There were no eagles or double bogeys on the day. These made his score two-over par in the back nine and his total score became
one-over par.
So the 4 time major winner ended the first round at the Kiawah Island with 73 shots. Mickelson is seven strokes behind the leader of the first round after the first day.
He believes that he can perform well in the coming days. In an interview he said, “I'm going to do after it a little bit tomorrow and see if I can get it down there and play a little more aggressive and if I hit some good tee shots, I feel like there's some
low scores out there”.
