Phil Mickelson tied for fourth in the second round of Shell Houston Open
Phil Mickelson is tuning up for the Masters, as he performed well in the second round of the Shell Houston Open, standing tied for the fourth position.
The 41-year-old American professional golf player scored a 9-under 135 and gave a tough time to his rivals. He played well at the Redstone Golf Club Tournament Course in Humble, Texas.
He started the tournament by scoring a 7-under 65 in the first round. He carded eight impressive birdies and only one bogey on Thursday.
He displayed his stunning performance on Friday too, scoring a 2-under 70 and made four birdies and two bogeys in the second round of the tournament.
"I wasn't quite as hot with the putter," Mickelson said. "I had a lot come close but not quite go in. I played pretty well in the second round, but I didn't get the score that I had hoped. I got to light it up on the weekend".
Mickelson's performance, this year, is better than before. The 40-time PGA Tour winner is happy to find his lost form. Moreover, his fans have also welcomed him.
"I'm glad to be back playing well again, and to be not just executing in practice but to be executing back out on Tour," he added after Friday’s game.
Since January, he has played seven tournaments in total and only missed the cut at one event. He successfully won the title of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, by scoring a 17-under 269.
Soon after the Pebble Beach, he played Northern Trust Open and finished on the runner-up position, as he lost the match in playoff.
"This is a different year for me for one simple reason ... my putter is back. I hit the ball great the last couple of years, and this year, I can roll it again and it feels terrific," Mickelson said.
The second-round game was halted due to bad light and many players have yet to finish their round.
Hence, all the remaining players will complete their second round on Saturday morning, before the third round tees off.
Mickelson has ample chances to impress the spectators by making more birdies on Saturday. He is playing well, improving and preparing for the Masters.
