Phil Mickelson to feature in Greenbrier Classic
A few months back Phil Mickelson was included in the Hall of Fame and soon after that lefty committed to play at the Greenbrier Classic.
Phil and the CEO of Greenbrier are good friends and Mickelson really enjoyed playing at the Greenbrier last year. Phil met the Justice at the concert of Black Eyed Peas and confirmed him that he and his family will be coming to the Greenbrier Classic.
According to Phil, the golf course is great and it is an excellent place to bring one’s family.
Last year at the Greenbrier Classic, Phil had a great fan following, people were all around him and were cheering for him.
Justice was hoping that Mickelson would come up with a better performance this year. “Phil promised me that he would make the cut this year,” said Justice.
The commitment from one of the top golfers means that organizers can sell more tickets and attract more sponsors.
It was Stuart Appleby who won here back in 2010, and last year it was Scott Stallings who claimed victory at the Old White TPC.
Apart from Mickelson, there are other big name players heading to the field at the Old White TPC.
Tiger Woods, who just won AT&T National, will be teeing off along with the likes of Webb Simpson, Dustin Johnson, Jim Furyk, and Marc Leishman, who was simply superb at the Travelers Championship.
Some other international players will also be seen hitting golf balls at the Greenbrier Classics, including the likes of K.J. Choi, Vijay Singh and the Zimbabwean Brendon de Jonge.
Mickelson has a very strong bonding with the Greenbrier and they are planning to host a fun raising event. The money generated will go to the charity, Birdies for the Brave, which Phil has founded.
“Amy and I are thrilled to join with the Justices and The Greenbrier Classic to host what we think will be a spectacular event at TPC Sawgrass for a very worthy cause,” said Mickelson.
Justice was extremely happy to host this event with Phil, he said,
“West Virginia has always been at the forefront in providing its sons and daughters for the defense of our country, and that is why (wife) Cathy and I are so proud to host such an important event with Phil and Amy”.
