Phil Mickelson to play at Scottish Open, in a bid to find his rhythm
In the last seven rounds which Phil has played, he had a score of over par. This season, Mickelson has not been in his prime form, his shots have been wayward.
However, the season has not been that bad as it looks like. He won AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and has failed to make cut in only three events.
At the Greenbrier Classic, Phil could not manage to come up with a satisfactory performance. He failed to make the cut. With the British Open around the corner, this is surely not a good sign for the four-time major winner.
This performance at the Greenbrier could be a blessing in disguise for Lefty. This means that he can now practice for the high profile British Open. To get ready for that, Phil will be featuring in the Scottish Open next week.
Playing at the Scottish Open will help him prepare for the Open, as the conditions will be similar to those in England.
Phil believes that he has to make a few adjustments in his game in order to pull things back on track. Overall, he has been hitting well. He was explaining the flaws that are present in his game after day two at Old White TPC Course.
He said, “It does not feel bad off the tee, it does not feel bad with the iron play, it does not feel bad chipping or putting, but I am making a lot of loose drives here or there, some loose iron shots here or there, missing some short putts here or there”.
This is his career’s worst run in terms of scores per number of rounds played and this is what he had to say, “I really have been off,” he said. “I do not know what to say about that”.
He feels that soon he will find his form but it would be better if he gets back in shape sooner rather than later, as the Open is closing in.
Phil will be hoping that he goes one step further than last time at the Open, if he does that it will be his first British Open title.
