Phil O’Kane defeated Michael Wild by a frame score of 4-3 in the best-of-seven Round 1 match of the last event of this season’s World Snooker Q School.
This final event of this year’s World Snooker Q School is being held at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
It was a cutthroat competition, as both players went neck to neck all the way. However, in the end it was O’Kane who held his nerves to edge past his opponent in the deciding frame.
Both players put in a great show for the audience and the overall score-line between them was 69-20, 93-57 (Wild 59, O’Kane 41), 36-80 (O’Kane 53), 15-93 (O’Kane 48, 45), 70-1, 31-62 (O’Kane 45) and 0-83 (O’Kane 68).
The opening frame was a bit slow, as both players were seen toiling their rhythm. However, in the end it was Wild who managed in drawing the first blood 1-0. In the second frame, the first chance fell for O’Kane but he could only manage a break of 41 before
his opponent mopped up a frame-winning break of 59 to further extend his lead by 2-0.
In the following frames O’Kane also showed his strength, as he bounced back into the game and levelled things at 2-2 by winning the third and fourth. He knocked in a magnificent break of 53 in the third frame before dominating the fourth with a couple of
quick fires, 48 and 45.
Though Wild pocketed the fifth frame without doing anything outstanding to go in front at 3-2, he lost the following sixth and seventh in a row.
Meanwhile O’Kane, who was left down by one frame with two to play, showed nerves of steel and racked up superb breaks of 45 and 68 in the sixth and seventh frames respectively to finish the matters off in style.
He has now set up a potential clash with Craig Steadman in Round 2.
