Phil Swainston injured for Leeds Carnegie
Leeds Carnegie prop Phil Swainston will not play this weekend after the club confirmed the player has a broken wrist.
The 19-year-old picked up the injury during the heavy 48-6 defeat to Leicester last weekend. There were hopes that Swainston had suffered nothing more than a sprained wrist but he could now be out for
the rest of the season.
"Unfortunately it looks like Phil has a hairline fracture.
We will know more in the coming weeks but it looks like he will have a period of time on the sidelines," said director of rugby Andy Key.
This is a big blow for the club because Swainston is a very important player with a lot of quality. However, Key says there is more than enough quality in terms of players
coming in.
A big blow
This news is a big blow for the club because Swainston is seen as one of the brightest prospects in Leeds. Coaches, fellow players and fans all see this season as Swainston's
break through year. The club must now work extra hard to keep the morale of the player high.
The injury blow places a strain on the rest of the playing squad. There is cover at prop with the likes of Kearnan Myall and Luther Burrell ready to come in.
However, the big danger is that if any of the replacement players pick up an injury then the squad will be threadbare. This will force the coach to pick from the youth
teams.
"Thankfully we have got a few people coming back into contention. Kearnan Myall and Luther Burrell
who both missed last week's game at Leicester, will be available for selection whilst Dan Browne and Scott Barrow
who came off at Welford Road, have responded well to treatment," added Key.
Betting advice
Leeds is struggling at the bottom of the Premiership but the vibes coming out of the club are good. It should only be a matter of time before Leeds gets a win on the board.
Don't back Swainston's replacement to score because prop is not an attacking position.
