Phil Taylor defeated, Robert Thornton grasps the UK Open by embarrassing “The Power”!
The UK Open concluded the breath taking darts extravaganza with the biggest shocker of the entire darts season.
Robert Thornton defeated the 15-time World Champion Phil Taylor in the final of the UK Open. The headlines roared Taylor’s defeat, as stunned fans posted on social websites, mentioning Taylor’s defeat as ‘unbelievable’.
The 44-year old joined the PDC in 2008 after winning the World Masters and made his mark in the world of darts. He lacks experience, yet, possesses the magic of a champion.
Phil Taylor, on the other hand, is a 15-time World Champion. The participants of the UK Open were scared of facing “The Power” as his bag of experience and unlimited energy is never empty.
Taylor appeared confused in his previous rounds as well. Taylor admitted that his bottle was shaking, as he barely won against Roland last week. It was clear that Taylor has his form a little out of touch as he did not perform as outstandingly as expected.
“He came back well and put me under pressure, and I'll admit that my bottle was going. I was shaking a little bit because you don't want to get beaten in your first game here,” said Taylor, concluding Roland’s effort.
Taylor’s downfall started after last week’s shaky performance. It was clear that the mighty Phil Taylor has been exhausted by last month’s McCoy’s Premier League and did not take the UK Open seriously.
Taylor’s back issues have also been distressing. Last month’s premier league saw Taylor tired and hurt after the finale, as his back was hurting and it was visible.
The man of the moment still remains Thornton. The 44-year-old staged an exceptional battle against the legendary Phil Taylor and did the unthinkable, won the UK Open in his first appearance at the mega event of darts.
“I'm very proud, my kids are going to be up jumping all over the place. To just get to the final, I was happy enough. To win it... it's just unbelievable” said an ecstatic Thornton.
Thornton proved that passion and dedication is the path towards achieving the impossible. His victory against Taylor is a benchmark in itself and has gotten him the respect he needed.
As far as Taylor goes, his age has gotten in the way of his legend.
