Phil Thompson insists Aston Villa boss http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Houllier is in good health at the hospital
Former Liverpool centre back Phil Thompson has confirmed that Gerard Houllier is doing fine at the hospital and will soon return to his managerial duties.
Houllier’s former assistant mentioned that his illness is not serious and there is a possibility that the Frenchman could be back in time for Aston Villa’s next Premier League game against Stoke City on Saturday, April 23, 2011.
The 63-year-old was admitted to hospital in the early hours of Wednesday morning due to illness complaints. This was not the first time when Houllier had to be hospitalised as he underwent a similar situation in 2001 when he was managing Liverpool. That
scenario was a more serious one as the current Villa boss had to undergo an emergency surgery back then.
In 2001, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 tactician was standing in a game against Leeds United and fell ill at half time for which he had to be rushed to the hospital. He then had a surgery and it took five months for Houllier to rejoin his duties. During his absence,
Thompson stood as a caretaker manager and helped the Reds to finish second in the League.
Thompson insisted that manager is in good health and will soon be released from the hospital. After talking to Houllier’s doctor http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mark-Wilson-c24152, the centre back told that he had spoken to Doctor Waller and he told him that everything was fine. He also said
that Houllier was talking to his family on the phone which was a good thing.
Further comparing the manager’s current situation with that of 2001, Thompson added, “When he was ill before, in 2001, I always believed from day one when I was standing in for him [as Liverpool boss] that he would come back, and from what I'm told his illness
this time is nothing as bad as what happened before, thankfully. He's had some difficulties at Villa, as he had in his early days at Liverpool. I think everyone at Villa will come to trust him as a father figure.”
Aston Villa are currently 10th in the League table with 40 points and will host Stoke City in their next game on Saturday.
