  1. Who has overrated him?  He is the 2nd ranked player in the world based on a system that everyone uses.  Does this make him overrated?  The system used finishes in tournaments based on who else plays in that tournament, and how much money the player earns.  This is a ranking system not a rating system.  Phil is #2 and has earned it.

  2. Very good player (3 majors), but his biggest enemy is that thing between his ears; you could double his major count if he would avoid being silly at times.

  3. No way - the Mick is a class act and has the winnings to prove it.  Known as the best short game player in the world.

  4. False!  He's the number two player in the world!  I think much, (more like all), of what's said about Phil comes through the media.

I think that since Tiger Woods is so good, he makes everybody looks mediocre.  Look at the world rank listing and imagine if Tiger Woods never existed.  Phil would be looking pretty good.

  5. Waaay True, Bill

  6. I don't believe that Michelson is over rated.  The problem with 'rating' golfers today is that everybody is measured against Tiger.  Why can't so and so beat Tiger? etc.  Tiger is in a class by himself and it seems like if other pros aren't in his class, they're deemed to be under achievers.  Sometimes Mickelson can be his own worst enemy by the odd poor shot making decision, but overall, I think he is deserving of the #2 ranking that he holds.

  7. I think he is somewhat because he doesn't play very well in Europe.  In America, he is tough to beat though.  Because most of the courses in the PGA are played in America, he does very well.  If there were more tournaments in Europe in the PGA, I think you wouldn't see him at #2.

  8. True:

He is NOT that good around the greens, did you see his touch at The Open, a baby elephant could have done better, he is a above average golfer who has risen to the occasion in a couple of competitions. Just like: -

    Els

    Harrington

    Daly

These guys are good golfers but will never go down as GREAT golfers like: -

    Faldo

    Woods

    Parmer

    Jack N.

He would rank in the top 100 of all time but nowhere near top 20.

  9. No Sergio has that title for sure. Now I would rate Phil in the top 3 though of most overrated. "Best short game" give me a freaking break. Right now Phil does not have the best short game on the LPGA tour.

  10. YUP!  He's a good player but not that great.  David Duval was a better player overall than Phil.  David just needs to "rest" his personal issues and play like a professional.  Maybe Phil is past his prime.

  11. He is the second best player in the world.  Nobody is saying he should be considered THE best.  So how can he be overrated?  He has had a great career but compared to the machine that is Tiger Woods, everyone else can look silly.

  12. The question is not where he ranks it's if he is overrated based on media attention etc. Geez!!!!! I would have to say he is up there with Sergio. When your picked as a favorite to win the tournement and fall behind David Duvall you are overrated!!!! period and this isn't the first time.

  13. I'd say False...granted he had a tough time at the British Open this past week but he's still a great player...34 career wins over 49 million in earnings...I'll take that...

  14. He can't be that overrated if he's the #2 golfer in the world. He can probably golf better than us too.

  15. False! Phil is just Phil. What you see is the press hype that they create to form your opinion for you.

  16. He is not overrated.  He is the best wedge player in the history of the game.  There is no place around the green that he can't get the ball close to the flag from.  The only thing that hurts him is the fact that he is so offensive minded.  From time to time he loses tournaments because he tries to force shots instead of taking his medicine and protecting a lead.  Overrated is not a word I would use to describe Phil.

  17. True iam afraid, how hes still at #2 beats me,hes ok on American courses with the vast greens  and wide fairways,

  18. True - a little anyway.  He seems to play pretty well on easier courses (ie TPC in Scottsdale), but on really tough course set-up (US Open, Open Championship) etc, he doesn't seem to have the discipline to keep the ball in play, and I really question if he should be #2 in the world.  Although the ranking is based on fact, not opinion, so I guess he deserves it.

  19. False.

Phil is exactly as good as he wants to be. It's not as good as he CAN be, but he values other things higher than golf.

  20. Yes, anybody who needs 4 shots to the green from inside 100 yards (US Open 2008 13th hole), is not a good player, does not even qualify as a hack in my book.

  21. Overrated by the press he receives....probably.  but he is a good golfer when he gets control of his head and his game
